Formulating a Question
How you formulate your question for the Tarot is an important part of any reading. The more clear and direct you are, the more clear and direct the answer will be, but it’s also important to keep in mind that along with illumination, guidance is a key part of what a reading can offer, so how you phrase your question counts.
I don’t quite know how to explain it, but in my experience the cards are attuned to their surroundings, they are aware of you the moment you walk in the room or virtually connect with your reader. They are listening to the conversation. The cards hear you, and they are going to give you a lot more to work with if you ask about what you want to know in a constructive and open way.
For example, you could ask “When will I meet my true love?” but a better use of the power of Tarot would be to ask, “What can I do to prepare myself so I am receptive to love?” or “How can I better position myself so that I don’t miss my true love when they come along?” Both of these ways of asking the question will give you a deeper and more nuanced reading.
Something else to keep in mind when formulating your question is that the future is in flux; it is not predetermined. We have free will as does everyone else, and so the further we look forward from the present, the murkier the picture gets. Through the Tarot, what we see is in the future is based on what we can glean from the past and what we know of the present, so it’s more helpful to consider how we can work in the present to effect an outcome we want, than to try to pinpoint where in the timeline something may - or may not - exist.
Of course, you can always ask more general questions along the lines of “What message do I need to know today?” or “What guidance do I need to receive from the Universe right now?” but keep in mind that general questions will also give you general guidance … and that’s quite alright, too!
If you are unsure how to phrase your question, take a few minutes at the start of your session to let your reader know you’d like some help in formulating the best way to ask. A discussion with your reader about what you want to know at the beginning will really help you get the most out of your session.
